Back to School Sewing with Owls

I am not sure why I associate owls with Fall, but I always do. Perhaps it is the Halloween connection, but somehow owls seem to go with fall leaves, pumpkins and picking apples. Owls also can be for a boy or girl, so for this post, I have gathered together a slew of owl designs (mostly free) to spark your fall creativity and back to school sewing! First up is a free owl embroidery design that would look adorable on the front of a little boy or girl's outfit.

Two great smocking plates (not free) are What a Hoot and Baby Barn Owls.

If you would like to try counterchange smocking, this Counterchange Owl design is available for free on crafsty. I think this would look terrific done in a rust or brown check.

Although one doesn't normally think of pink and purple when it comes to owls, you might like some owl inspired fabric, (pattern is Music Class Jumper by Oliver + S)

or a pink and purple Halloween costume!

If you prefer a more realistic costume, you could try this one.

Once you are done sewing for your little one, read them one of our favorite stories.

You might enjoy sewing this earbud holder for an older child,

Or one of these little guys to keep you company in the sewing room.
