2017 In Review

2017 Best 9

Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season and are looking forward to an exciting and hopefully blessed 2018! As so many are doing this time of year, I thought I would take a few minutes to look back at 2017. 2017 was an amazing year for Pink Hollybush. I started Pink Hollybush several years ago, but the business took a back seat while I served on the board of the Smocking Arts Guild of America. As a stepped off the board, I decided to get serious about the business and see if I could really make a go of it. So here are the accomplishments of 2017!

First Pink Hollybush released several patterns and kits:

~ The release of our first Pink Hollybush Sewing Pattern: the Smocked Bonnet.

~ The release of two smocking plates: Mama and Baby Giraffe and Little Birdy.

~ Our second smocked ornament kit and pattern: The Smocked Fan.

~ The release of our first Embroidery Kit and Pattern: The Swedish Heart.

I am most proud of the detailed instructions in our patterns. They include step by step photos and step by step stitch directions.

Pink Hollybush gave away 5 free patterns this year.

~ Picture smocked Little Hippo.

~ Picture smocked Blooming Rose.

~ Geometric Findley.

~ Geometric Daisy.

~ Embroidered Old Fashioned Wool Felt Ornament (a gift to our newsletter subscribers - click here to join! )

We introduced smocking kits for all of the patterns as well as for the Baby's Breath. Producing the kits is time intensive, but making smocking accessible and available to those who may never have tried it is one of my priorities.

I began blogging twice a week in March of 2017. I didn't always manage to keep to the schedule but wrote 78 blog posts. If I managed to blog twice a week from March on, it should have been 87, so I was a few short, Blog posts covered a range of sewing subjects, but I was most proud of the series I wrote on Sewing and Smocking with Knits. Some of my most popular posts were the round-up posts, gathering in one place a collection of free patterns, such as these on:

~ Wee Care Patterns

~ Free Christmas Smocking Patterns

I was honored to host the Weekend Links over on the Oliver + S blog. I also faithfully sent out the Pink Hollybush monthly newsletter. The newsletter contains free patterns, news about the sewing world and fun sewing tidbits. At over 700 members, it is growing daily. Sign up today to receive the free Daisy Smocking plate. As you can tell it was a very busy and sewing filled year! So what is up for 2018? New patterns, specifically for smocking knits, a smocking basics series on the blog, maybe video, some fun sewing for myself...
