Over on YouTube I did a beginners series on English Smocking. Here in this post I have put all 4 videos so you can easily find the basics. If you are new to English smocking or just want a refresher, here is a great place to start!
First up, this video explains what English Smocking is along with how and why it is used in sewing.
English Smocking is hand stitched on pleated fabric. There are 3 ways to achieve pleated fabric and this video explains the options.
Beautiful smocking is the result of executing a beautiful stitch. This video explains the basic method of smocking and the needles required to achieve a great stitch.
Finally a beautiful smocking stitch requires the use of the correct thread. In this video I cover the different thread options and further explain how to achieve an amazing smocking stitch!
