5 reasons to join a sewing community pin showing women sewing together.

Do you have other like-minded sewists that you regularly connect with and support your sewing journey? Well, if you don't, today I have five reasons for why you might want to go looking for a sewing community, and a little bit about the Pink Hollybush Sewing Community if you would like to join us on our sewing journey. The video is below if you prefer to listen or you can read instead.

1. In a Sewing Community, We Speak the Same Language

I hope your family is supportive of your sewing journey, but let’s be honest—they probably aren't thrilled to hear about the deep nuances between Batiste and Broadcloth. They likely don’t want to discuss the intricacies of a knit neckline or hear about your latest fabric haul.

Your sewing sisters, however? They are happy to do all those things! We share a common language and interest. Having a group where you can geek out over fabric and technique without having to explain yourself is incredibly refreshing.

2. A Sewing Community will Push You Beyond Your Comfort Zone

The second reason that it's great to be part of a sewing community is that it will encourage you to push yourself a little bit farther beyond your comfort zone and really expand those sewing skills. We're all a little bit nervous about taking on the next sewing challenge and we want to be able to do it and be successful. Having those other people that you can look to, that you can get answers from, and that you can be supported by, is really going to help you tackle that next step. They're also going to be the people that can pull you back a little bit if you're going way too fast and say, "Hey, maybe you're trying to take on too many techniques at once. Let's scale it back and try just this technique for this next project."

3. The Best Place to go for Answers to your Questions are Your Sewing Sisters.

if you have sewing questions, the best place to go is to your sewing sisters to get the answers. Yes, I know there is YouTube. This video is on YouTube and YouTube is an amazing resource, but in the time that you're trying to research how to do this technique or answer that question, you can get so overwhelmed and end up down a rabbit hole of all the different options. Instead, being able to jump into a sewing community, ask your sewing sisters, and get their firsthand experience and recommendations is just going to give you that added confidence and cut through the confusion and the overwhelm that you might feel on how to tackle a particular problem that you've run into.

4. A Sewing Community is the Perfect Place to Receive Feedback on Ideas

You have an idea—you want to create this unique garment or you want to try it with this fabric. Is it going to work? You're just not sure. You don't want to waste your time; you don't want to waste your money. A great resource is to pop into that sewing community and say, "Hey, I'm thinking of trying this with this pattern. Do you think this is going to work?" The group can process that idea through with you and help you as you try to refine your plan so that you can be more successful with the garments that you sew.

5. In a Sewing Community You Receive the Encouragement You Need

It might be the encouragement to tell you to keep going and not give up. It might be the encouragement to dial it back and avoid the mistake. It might be the encouragement to just say, "Hey, yeah, I think that's going to be fantastic." Maybe you're not good at taking a little time for yourself, and so you need your sewing sisters to say, "Hey, come on. You can do this. Get back in that sewing room and take some time. You are worth it."

So, for all those reasons, I love our sewing community. It's such a wonderful and supportive place. If you're interested in joining the Pink Hollybush Sewing Circle, our doors open quarterly because we do quarterly sewing challenges. At the link below, you can get all the information. I hope that you'll consider joining a sewing community, whether it's ours or another one out there, so that you get the support you need for your creative sewing journey. Happy sewing.
