Playing with Pattern: Summer Sewing Inspiration

Playing with patterns

I LOVE sewing in the summer! I love working with the light weight fabrics, the fun colors and all the different combinations. The sewing is easy with loose and flowing designs, and just seems more fun and easier than winter fabric sewing. Of course finding the time to sew in the summer can be difficult when the outdoors is calling! But sitting by the pool, or watching a child's game is the perfect time to get some handwork done. Both Sunkissed , for a baby, and Mary De for the toddler or older girl, are quick to sew patterns, but

include lots of smocking. In fact, the Sunkissed sundress is two smocked panels sewn together with bias bound straps - very simple sewing!

I think one of the funnest aspects of sewing for children is picking out and combining different fabric patterns. Even if combining prints is something you can do in your sleep, doing that over the internet can be difficult, and so I thought for today's post, to get those creative juices flowing, I would show you some of the great combos we have in the shop, along with the DMC floss numbers for the perfect smocked accent.

First up is Hydrangeas with French Blue Broadcloth smocked with DMC 794 and 703.:

What about a 4th of July outfit? Red Pansies and Red Check smocked with DMC 666 and 813 would be perfect.

LIttle Birdy with Medallion would be just adorable. Smock with DMC 722 and 3846.

Finally, the classic pink combo: Pink Posies and Pink Check! DMC 604 and 601 complete the look.
