8 Free Patterns to Sew for Teenagers (even the Guys!)

8 Free Patterns to Sew for Teenagers (including the guys) pin

The Christmas Season is fully here, so for today’s video and blog post, I have eight free sewing patterns that would make terrific gifts for the teenagers or young adults in your life. On top of that, most of these project would make great presents for the guys in your life with maybe one exception. As always you can watch by clicking on the video below or read through the post.

1. Hammock Sewing Pattern

Hammock sewing pattern.

The first project is probably the most ambitious, but I couldn’t resist including it. My twenty-something son would absolutely love this. He’s a huge camper and is always heading out of the city with his friends. This pattern is for making your own hammock. Even if you don’t sleep in it, it’s great to set up at the campsite to relax and enjoy the day. If you decide to try this one, let me know how it turns out!

2 & 3. Bicycle Accessories to Sew

Bag to attach to Bike handlebars sewing pattern.

Next are two patterns for the cyclists in your life. The first is a great bag that straps onto the bike handlebars to hold whatever small tools or gear they need — a bike pump, tire tools, and so on. It’s simple to put together and very practical.

The second is a water bottle and phone holder that attaches to the handlebars. The phone slips right in so it’s handy, and the water bottle stays up front rather than down below like some of the metal water bottle holders made specifically for bikes. I never want to reach down that far while biking! Either of these would make great gifts for a cyclist.

4. Roll-up Beach Mat Sewing Pattern

Maybe you’re in a warmer climate, or you have someone who loves the beach. This roll-up beach mat goes over the shoulder and is easy to carry — perfect for beach days.

5. Yoga Mat Bag Sewing Pattern

Alternatively, if you have someone who’s into yoga, here’s a great bag that holds workout items, a water bottle, and a yoga mat. It goes right over the shoulder and they are ready to hit their yoga class..

6. Mani Pouch Free Sewing Pattern

Floral pouch with nail polish bottles, nail care tools, and a pink file on a white surface. Vibrant and organized.

I mentioned there was one project that’s probably geared toward girls — this fun mani pouch. It goes together really quickly. I made a bunch of these a couple of years ago for all the women in our family and filled them with nail polish and manicure supplies. It was a great gift and very well received.

7. Backpack Sewing Pattern

Next is a fun, general-purpose backpack. You can never have too many small backpacks to throw on and carry a few essentials while running around.

8. Free Sweatshirt Sewing Pattern for Teenagers

And finally, there’s a free adult sweatshirt pattern from Peekaboo Patterns. It can be made with or without a hood and works for men or women. What teenager or twenty-something doesn’t need another sweatshirt? You can customize it however you like.

Those are my pattern suggestions for great handmade gifts. If you give one of these a try, I’d love to hear about it — leave a comment on YouTube or reach out to me directly via email.
