As a beginner smocker, my first smocked dress came very close to being my last, and if it wasn’t for Rina, it probably would have been! My oldest and then only daughter was 2. We had just moved to Connecticut, and I was in the local library checking out the sewing and craft section. I stumbled upon Sewing Classic Clothes for Children by Kitty Benton. I thought the clothes were beautiful and decided to check out the book. Here is the rest of the story…
The thing that has struck me over the years is that people can immediately spot a smocked dress that is lovingly handmade. They recognize the beautiful smocking or hand embroidery and are quick to comment on it. My daughters always felt so special in their hand smocked dresses and now my granddaughter tells my daughter that she wants to wear her “Gigi made dress”. I don’t live close to my granddaughter and sewing a “Gigi made dress” for her is one way that I show her I love her. I want to help you receive that same satisfaction but without the difficulties I encountered!
Please join me for the free webinar Let’s Get You Smocking Your First Dress or Overalls!
The webinar will be at 7:00 p.m. eastern time. I will be giving fabric and pattern recommendations as well as how you can get started inexpensively and without hand pleating the fabric even if you don’t have a Rina to pleat for you! Using the right fabric and pattern so that you have a positive outcome as a beginner is so important. One of my pattern recommendations includes overalls so this isn’t just for the girls – we cover the boys (or a girl who doesn’t want a dress) as well! The webinar will last about an hour and include a time for your questions. A recording will be available if you cannot join me live. So come and join me if you are a beginner to smocking, are just curious to see what is involved, or used to smock years ago and just need a refresher and Let’s Get You Smocking!
I hope to see you on the 3rd – Let’s Get you Smocking your first Garment!
